Safety protection in LED light-emitting diode packaging process
1. Understanding of LED packaging safety
In the process of LED production, testing, storage, transportation and assembly, instrument equipment, materials and operators are prone to produce several thousand volts of electrostatic voltage due to friction. When the LED comes into contact with these charged bodies, the charged body discharges through the LED
2. Due to the high resistivity of semiconductor materials, the induced charge generated by static electricity in the production process of this kind of chip is not easy to disappear. When accumulated to a certain degree, it can produce a very high electrostatic voltage. This voltage creates a strong electric field that penetrates the LED
In some of the insulator or PIN junction discharge phenomenon LED can withstand the maximum electrostatic damage voltage is only a few hundred to
A few thousand volts, instantaneous current is enough to cause thermal damage to the LED and then lead to LED effectiveness. As shown in Figure 2-2, it is still possible due to static
Damage of LED internal chip caused by electric release. In general, the smaller the device size, the smaller the electrostatic voltage it can withstand and the greater the electrostatic threat.
2-2 Damage of LED internal chip caused by static electricity release
In fact, human body electrostatic discharge is often one of the main causes of LED electrostatic damage. In the process, operators have a wide range of activities, frequent activities, and much contact with materials and devices. If electrostatic protection is not carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of electrostatic protection in the process of operation, the accumulated static electricity is not exported in time, which will also cause great damage to LED. Table 2-1 lists typical voltages in a moving human body. Table 2-1 shows that in the process with low relative humidity, it is extremely important to take necessary electrostatic protection and strictly control the voltage of moving human body to damage the device. However, human static electricity is easy to be ignored, and excessive static electricity protection measures are also easy to be ignored. Throughout the LED packaging process, all process operators must always keep electrostatic protection in mind.
